Ralph was born in London, and studied the violin at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama at London University, and privately with Ralph Holmes and Maurice Clare (a pupil of Sevcik). He has held full time positions in the Ulster Orchestra (2 years) and The Orchestra of Opera North (5 years). For over 15 years he has worked as a professional freelance musician, playing with many ensembles in the North of England including the Northern Sinfonia, RPO, RLPO, Northern Ballet Theatre and the Manchester Camerata.
He has led the Orchestra of D’oyle Carte and the National Operetta Orchestra. His freelance work has also enabled him to play with many popular musicians including Led Zepplin, The Moody Blues and Russell Watson. He also enjoys performing chamber music, most notably with a pianist in a recital duo. Ralph is married to Christine, a teacher and singer, and has 2 children, Lizzie and Stephen, both of whom are learning to play the violin.
