About our chosen Charity
ASSIST Sheffield was set up in the Autumn of 2003 and is working to provide some support to destitute asylum seekers in and around Sheffield (we think there may be about 1,000). Some Asylum seekers are becoming destitute because they have been receiving support from the Home Office but this support has been withdrawn. A few people are deported soon after this happens. Others cannot be deported as their country of origin is deemed to be "unsafe". Some people appeal against the decision.
