Holst's The Planets Playday
Saturday 5 July 2008
St. Luke’s Church, Lodge Moor
The Endcliffe and the Sheffield Chamber Orchestra are linking up for the day on Saturday 5 July 2008 to rehearse and have an informal playthrough of Holst’s The Planets.
The day will start with a full orchestral warm-up, then split into sectionals and subgroups culminating in a play through at the end of the day. This will just be for the enjoyment of members of the orchestra, so there will be no pressure; the emphasis is on enjoyment!
There will be four tutors assisting during the day: Robin McEwan, Martin Lightowler, Cathy Evans and Susannah Simmons.
The cost for the day will be £12.00 per person, which will cover room hire, tea/coffee during the day, hire of music and workshop leaders.
The Endcliffe Orchestra will be looking at the piece during selected Monday rehearsals after their May concert, up until 5 July. Members of the Sheffield Chamber Orchestra are welcome to attend, though this is certainly not a requirement for participation in the Playday. Everyone will be informed of the relevant dates in due course.
The score requires a sizeable orchestra, therefore we would like your commitment as soon as possible, in case we need to source any rare breeds!
